Founder's Mesage
Dreams…Everyone has dreams, but some set out to make their dream a reality. And some dreams can help others dream and reach their goals. I had a dream, to establish a school, which would cater to the needs of village children, enabling them, empowering them to dream their own dreams as well as give them tools they could use to make those dreams a reality. So, resigning my government job, I came to this rural area of Shimoga district and began the Lotus Education and Development Society ® to run a school we named Jade Valley School.
Challenges:
There have been difficult times, of course, but we are sure we have made a positive difference in the lives of many of our students. A large proportion of them come from agricultural families with limited financial resources. But their parents have a dream, that their children should not just learn English but also study in an English medium school and achieve great success, success which they could only dream of.
Success:
Many students who have passed out of our school are now working for the top IT companies such as Accenture, SAP, KPMG and other such companies and earning many times the amount their parents did! Others have been encouraged to take up their own dreams, who now have their own start-ups, and some are working in areas such as hospitality or as photo journalists, areas they wouldn’t normally go into. So, we know we have helped open their horizons and strengthened their readiness to follow their dreams.
Needs/ Requirements:
We have kept our fees very low to encourage more parents, especially those with a very low financial ability, to take the step to educate their children and improve their prospects. But this is also a problem because we find it hard to build up the infrastructure required such as buildings, transportation, laboratory, sports equipment etc. We would also like to recruit highly qualified teachers who can engage and enlighten our students and help them reach their highest potential.
Walking the wire of low finances and high expenses has kept us from completely fulfilling our dream of providing a truly holistic education to our students and expanding their horizons to the maximum. Hence, we need partners in making this happen!
So, we invite everyone of you to join us in our mission to help all the children in this rural area. Your help will enable us to reduce the burden on the parents especially those who really need it.
Requirements:
- School building expansion and maintenance
- School vans and drivers
- Teachers who are more fluent in English
- Sports facility and training
- Provide a fully functional computer lab
- Expansion of the existing Library
- Provide a functional laboratory
- Kitchen facility for mid-day meals
We are also looking at empowering our local community by starting an out-reach program which will provide employment opportunities through classes such as, Spoken English, Career guidance, Tailoring, Computer classes and Beautician courses.
